River Clywedog
Beat Description
This beat is approximately 1.5 miles of double bank fishing except for the upstream limit where the right bank finishes before the left. The beat can be accessed by walking upstream from Glan-y-Wern, from the bridge at Pont Drefechan or via a footpath off the A525. The banks of the Clywedog are tree lined and overgrown in places.
How to get there:
To fish the lower and middle sections of the beat take the A525 out of Ruthin towards Denbigh, at Llanrhaeadr turn right towards Llanynys/Llandyrnog and at the next junction bear right which takes you to the river bridge. Park on the right before the bridge or over the bridge. Access to the river is over the stile for the left bank and the right bank is accessed by crossing the river on the foot bridge downstream of the stile.
To fish the upper section take the A525 out of Ruthin towards Denbigh, after about one mile there is a lay-by on the right. Take care pulling into the lay-by as traffic comes round the bend in front very fast. Walk up the road to the footpath sign and follow to the footbridge, cross over the footbridge and fish down the right bank.
Parking:
Parking on the right before Pont Drefechan, and on the upper beat, there is parking in the lay-by on the main Ruthin-Denbigh road.
